Quick takes...
Twins: 2 A's: 5
I had to listen to todays game at work today and to be honest I missed alot of it. Just glancing through stats I see that Kyle Lohse appeared to have a pretty good game Striking out three while walking one and holding Oakland to two runs. But I have learned something pretty important in the last week or so...when your offense only scores two runs, you tend to loose alot of ball games.
The bright spots were Morneau who went 2-3 with a double and an RBI as well as Lecroy who went 2-3 with a solo shot. I am holding my breath that Morneau is awakening to his potential and hopefully he can parlay this into success for next year. But we have all seen him be streaky this year too so until I see consistency I remain cautious.
Looking at the lineup today which was:
Stewart
Castro
Ford
Lecroy
Jones
Morneau
Cuddyer
Redmond
Bartlett
It strikes me that Our Beloved Twins are lacking at depth suddenly. Without Mauer in the line-up the #4 spot seems extremely exposed no matter who you put there. Lecroy seems to have done well today but this isn't a roster that puts fear into the other teams pitcher. I have hopes that either Bartlett or Ford step up and become a top third of the order by next spring.
The Call of the Year
Last night I was sent on a duty to get a peanut butter chocalate chip cookie for a increasingly pregnant fiance. On the drive I heard Jon Gordons call in the bottom of the 9th where Lew doubled off the baggie in right to drive Morneau in from first for that game winning run. The call was typical of Gord-o...the squeaky voice cracking as he screams "and heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees (pause) SAFE!" I was so charged up by the call and then I realized...this was the first win in 6 games. It may have been the most exciting call I will remember of 2005. Watching that play on the news I learned another important lesson...Justin Morneau is s-l-o-w. Not Kent Hrbeck slow but certainly he's no Greg Gagne.
Thats all for today, I'm working on something special for y'all in the future so do come back and check it out. Thanks for stopping.
